I Think I Need a Business Coach or Consultant for my Business, Now What? — Part 2
In Part 1, I discussed the differences between a business coach and consultant as well as understanding the unique ways a coach or a consultant can help your business, so if you haven’t already, go read Part 1 and then come back here.
Alright, now let’s get back into it!
1. Consider: What kind of help do I need for my business?
Now that you know the difference between a business coach and a brand consultant, you might be 100% clear on what type of professional help you could use, or you may be thinking, “Great, now I feel like I need both!”
If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the amount of work on your plate, or you simply can’t figure out how to do something yourself, it’s time to get a consultant.
Why let a task you hate, for example, book-keeping, or something you feel clueless about, like designing your website, hold you back in your business? Hire your weaknesses, and use your new-found time to focus on the tasks that make you happy and grow your bank account.
On the flip side, you might be feeling that you know where you want to be in a year and you just need help with “how” part of things.
- How can I organize my finances so I can hire two people in the next year?
- How can I lead my team with overwhelming encouragement and strength?
- How can I structure my business so it’s led with green sustainable partnerships?
- How can I bring positive communication into my business and personal relationships?
These types of questions indicate you need a business coach who can help you map out your goals and ideas, devise a plan, and lead you to execute.
When it comes to a specific type of business coach or consultant you need, that’s where you really need to dig deep on what’s holding you back in your business and life, and what feels disconnected.
For example, the sound of having a sales coach might be enticing (because who doesn’t want more sales?), but maybe what you really need is someone who can coach you on how to align your brand in a way that creates a powerful connection with your potential customers, which means you’ll also be increasing your sales and feel good about it.
Get into the nitty gritty of sorting out what you need help with, be really honest with yourself and your business, and get specific, that’s where you’ll find the answers.
We know you’re a whip-smart and savvy business owner, or else you wouldn’t be reading this post, but even the brightest bosses still get stumped on how to select the right person to work with to amp up their businesses.
2. Consider: How do I work best?
- Group settings
- Online DIY programs
- One-on-One
Maybe you work best in a group setting, maybe you live in a small town and need an online coaching or consulting experience because no one offers these services where you live. Maybe you need someone there on deck with you for intense one-on-one coaching. Whatever the case, the plus-side to this growing group of business coaches and consultants is that they’re all organized in different formats for different types of learners. Ask yourself how you like to learn and find a business coach or brand consultant that fits your preferences.
3. Consider: Does this business coach understand my industry?
Narrow in on business coaches and consultants who have brands that mirror your personality and feel compatible with your business, and your industry. Do your research, and set up some chats. Business coaching for creative entrepreneurs is a different type of relationship than business coaching for salespeople. Once you start having conversations you’ll know who you click with.
If you’ve been toying around with the idea of bringing a business coach or consultant into the inner workings of your business, now’s the time to start making moves. We’re gearing up for a new year, 2016 yay! What a better time to make a game-changing move to help achieve your business goals this next calendar year!
